Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers for clients evaluating their options in Belize.

Our professional fees for handling the entire real estate purchase and transaction are normally 1.5% of the purchase price of the property, with a set minimum where the consideration is low. Stamp duty and government fees are separate. If the transaction does not close, we bill at an hourly rate of US $150 for professional services rendered up to that point.

Stamp duty is assessed at 5% or 8% of the consideration of the property (the first US $10,000 of the consideration is exempt). Note that the government may assess the property value higher than the actual sale price, which can require an additional stamp duty payment.
